Thomson East Coast Line Extension

By the end of  2025, LTA is expected to award the  contracts to do renovations at Changi Airport MRT station, platform doors replacement at Changi Airport, Expo and Tanah Merah, and rail replacement on the Changi Airport Branch Line to link the MRT section to the Thomson East Coast Line via Changi Airport Terminal 5. 

Currently, the station for Terminal 5 is already built as a shell cross-platform interchange station to connect to the future Cross Island Line. The tunnels linking the Sungei Bedok station to Changi Airport station have been completed, making the Thomson East Coast Line extension likely to open by 2028 at the current phase of the works. The proposal also includes an option to rename the MRT station at Changi Airport to Changi Airport Terminal 2 to avoid confusion with the Changi Airport Terminal 5 MRT station.

Works may take at least six months to a year to complete.
