I think the planners who are solely focused on Subang Airport have forgotten the sole existential purpose of why the KL International Airport was built.

.

In the 1990s, Subang Airport was overcrowded, inefficient and also dangerous because of the high frequency, low altitude and noisy jets taking off and landing at Subang. The noise resulted in complaints from residents in the newly-developed suburban area of Subang Jaya, and it was terrible. Hence, due to these factors, the government decided to build the KL International Airport in Sepang (they considered Sungai Buloh as well). To top it off, they made it a world class airport with world class facilities.

.

After KLIA was opened in 1998, the Subang Airport's main terminal, Terminal 1, was destroyed and a cargo and warehouse hangar built in its place. And Terminal 2 was changed into the Skypark terminal and only turboprop planes were put in place.

.

The government had failed to learn lessons from the past and are still insistent on regenerating Subang Airport. The increase in jets taking off and landing at Subang put people at risk. Back in 2023, a light aircraft crashed at Elmina City and killed motorists as it was descending to land. In 1977, Japan Airlines crashed also in Elmina. Flying Tiger Line crashed in an area of what is now Bandar Puteri Puchong in 1989. The proximity of Subang Airport has limited the height of real estate to be constructed in Subang.

.

Has the government considered the safety of civillians living in and around the Subang area? It is better for the government to improve rail and highway links to KLIA and focus on the KLIA services first. Funds spent on the Subang Airport Regeneration Project can be used to repair the Aerotrain which has made the once World's Best Airport look like a laughing stock. If those folks can't fix the Aerotrain, they can scrap the system and replace the Aerotrain's track with a long travellator or a buggy system to ferry passengers from the Main Terminal to the Satellite Building, or extend the Aerotrain linkway to connect it with KLIA2 so that folks do not have to clear immigration to enter Malaysia, board the KLIA Express to KLIA2, and clear immigration to catch a connecting flight to other destinations. Improve the efficiency of KLIA as inefficiency might lead to congestion. And in the name of safety, let Subang Airport be as it is before a second disaster strikes. Just my two cents.

.

May all those fasting have a blessed Ramadan and a blessed Nuzul al Quran in advance!
