3 MRT stations on the East-West Line are set for a rare change. Tanah Merah, Expo and Changi stations will be converted to the Thomson-East Coast Line.

A new interchange station - the TEL-Cross Island Line (CRL) interchange station at Terminal 5 - will also enable a direct rail connection between Changi Airport and the city centre.

This is confusing indeed, so what will happen to Simei, Tampines and Pasir Ris stations? I guess Tanah Merah will be the end stop for TEL with a transit option to EWL not a replacement? Or will the EWL to TM and Expo no longer be there and turned into underground lines instead… which means people traveling to the airport by train will take longer travel times now in certain situations as TEL passes through city centre further south than NSL/EWL
- Reply
Joaquim Jawili
Frans Van Terwisga tanah merah will be split in half — one side ewl and the other tel. simei-pasir ris will not be affected

Wow! I thought i was the only one confused. But i read the comments and realised I'm not alone! Article mentioned TEL to extend to TM station. THEN FURTHER EXTEND to TM station, this is not accurate le. Looks more like the TEL will be extended to T5 and END at TM station. The TM station becomes like JE Interchange station, serving both E-W and TEL lines la

Oh I like the brown line. My parents live in woodlands, so we used the brown line to orchard, to airport etc. It’s shorter and less crowded. I used it a lot the last time I was there. The MRT line in Singapore is easy compared to other big cities like NYC or London or even Paris.

commuters will feel almost no impact from this, you will literally just go to the same platform as you do nowadays
- Reply

Joaquim Jawili Wow smart decision.

- Reply
Will Will
Joaquim Jawili really? Because I see a lot of construction at tanah merah. Like they are creating a new passenger interchange platform. Looks as if the tel platform will be underground, and they might actually be digging at tanah merah. But then again, changing it to TEL should improve the horribly bad frequency of the current airport line.
- Reply
Kewei ヽ
Joaquim Jawili TEL 4 cars, existing CG line is 6 cars. Shorter train, means more crowded, still got impact.
- Reply
Joaquim Jawili
Kewei ヽ good point, but i do feel as though the tel’s increased frequency + the presence of crl to relieve some of the pressure, will be enough to not just stabilise but maybe even improve the crowds in this area of the system. only time will tell, though
- Reply
Joaquim Jawili
Will Will barring any lapses in my research, it should just be an extra platform being constructed. i’ve seen nothing regarding anything being built underground in tanah merah
- Reply
Will Will
Joaquim Jawili they are literally closing off 2 lanes of road (out of a 3 lane one way road) at night at the station, and building what looks like an enclosed passenger transfer space at level 1 (below the tracks on level 2). Idk what's going on inside, or if there is more underground.

Instead of using the money to convert part of green line between TM and Changi airport to Brown, it should remain as Green and be extended to T5. The brown line in T5 should be extended to Changi. Then Changi and T5 will be served by both lines for added resiliency as it is for the airport, an important transport hub.

- Reply
Gerald Tan
I really don’t get why this has to be done in such an expensive and disruptive way. Why not just extend the EWL branch line to terminate at T5, and have the TEL and CWL branch end there too? T5’s transport hub isn’t built yet, surely the design can still be adjusted to accommodate the different MRT lines and turn it into a nice grand terminus/interchange station, instead of forcing a retrofit of old infrastructure that was never meant for this. Am I missing something?

Statement of the Ministry of National Defense of the Kingdom of Cambodia
Phnom Penh, July 26, 2025
The Ministry of National Defense of the Kingdom of Cambodia strongly condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the unprovoked and premeditated act of aggression committed by the Kingdom of Thailand at 05:02 AM on July 26, 2025, involving the firing of five heavy artillery shells into multiple locations in Ekphap Village, Thmor Da Commune, Veal Veng District, Pursat Province.
This violation of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity constitutes a grave breach of international law, including the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, and has resulted in harm to innocent civilian lives, while disrupting peace and stability in the region.
The Kingdom of Cambodia calls on the international community to strongly condemn Thailand’s illegal act of aggression. Cambodia demands that Thailand immediately cease all hostile actions and uphold its obligations under international law.
While Cambodia remains committed to resolving disputes peacefully and in accordance with international law, it reserves the right to self-defense as stipulated in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) reaffirm their unwavering commitment to defend the nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of its people against Thailand’s brutal and unlawful acts of aggression.
